About this driver
HP LaserJet 1020 is a popular monochrome laser printer first released in 2005. Despite its age, it remains widely used in home offices and small businesses due to its reliability and low operating cost.
Microsoft has not included native Windows 11 drivers for this printer, so manual installation is required. The official HP driver from 2010 still works on Windows 10/11 with some compatibility tweaks. We've documented the working installation steps below.
Installation steps
Download Official Driver
Visit HP Support page and download the LaserJet 1020 driver for Windows. Choose the version matching your Windows architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).
Run as Administrator in Compatibility Mode
Right-click the downloaded installer → Properties → Compatibility tab → Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7 → Apply. Then double-click to install.
Restart and Test Print
After installation, restart your PC. Print a test page from Settings → Printers & scanners → HP LaserJet 1020 → Open print queue → Printer menu → Properties → Print Test Page.
